The convoy of the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, including his backup car, was on Monday involved in an accident in Abuja.
Our correspondent gathered that the governor’s car was already ahead to catch up with an appointment with President Muhammadu Buhari slated for 11am after maneuvering its way out of a gridlock on Jamata Bridge, along the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway.
It was learnt that the accident occurred along the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road, Abuja when a motorcycle rammed into the convoy as a result of which five cars in the convoy collided with one another.
It was learnt that the motorcyclist and two drivers in the convoy sustained injuries.
Our correspondent gathered through an eyewitness’ account that the drivers and the injured motorcycle rider were immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention.
However, the governor’s Director General, Media and Strategy, Kingsley Fanwo, denied that the governor’s convoy was involved in an accident.
The governor’s spokesperson said it took the intervention of the governor, who spent over an hour at the site of the incident, to resolve the situation and bring normalcy to the highway.
The governor was said to have used the opportunity to call for understanding among road users and security operatives.
